Sooooo Tired!

Are you really tired?  Not sleeping enough.  I know how that feels.  Any one who has a baby at home can relate to the lack of sleep you experience in the first few months.  Most of the time when we are overly tired and trying to make it through the day we turn to our yummy friend sugar.  Cookies, soda, candy whatever we can find to fight off that sluggish feeling. Unfortunately, this is a HUGE mistake.   Consuming all of those simple sugars will only result in over eating.  The more sugar you consume the more you want.  It’s like a drug.  This happens because of the inconsistency in our blood sugar levels.  The highs and lows leave our bodies screaming for more.

If you really want to do yourself some justice and make it through those slow days I suggest the following:

  • Keep your body hydrated with plenty of water
  • Eat well balanced snacks that contain a complex carbohydrate and a lean protein
  • Do not consume more than 300 mg of caffeine per day i.e.  3- 8 oz. cups of coffee
  • Go out for a walk and breathe in the fresh air

    You wrote this JUST FOR ME… or so it seems.

    I like the four suggestions. I admit the coffee will be hard to cut back on. Do you have suggestions for those well-balanced snacks?

      Well balanced snacks are always a combination of a lean protein with a complex carbohydrate. Some examples are:
      – small apple and 1 tbsp. peanut butter
      – trail mix
      – 1 c. kashi go lean cereal with skim milk
      – 1/2 turkey sandwich on whole wheat
